Australian 18ft skiff champion wins in Italy
The 2022-23 Australian champion Finport Finance 18ft skiff team of Keagan York, Matt Stenta and Phil Marshall added the Mark Foy Trophy to its 2023 record with a narrow victory this week over fellow Australian Yandoo team of John Winning, Fang Warren and Josh Porebski, on Lake Garda, Italy.
Both teams finished the 14-race regatta equal on 23 points, with Finport Finance taking the title after a count back. Finport Finance had seven wins against Yandoo’s three race wins and seven second placings.
The leading European team was Germany’s Black Knight, Heinrich von Bayern, Thomas Martin and Andy Martin, which finished third on 36 points.
Black Knight recorded one win and eleven top-four placings in the regatta.
Defending champion Lazarus, skippered by Marcus Ashley-Jones, finished in fourth place on 41 points, after scoring two race wins, followed by Denmark’s JB Design (Jesper Brondum) on 60, and Australia’s Burrawang-Young Henrys (Simon Nearn), with one race win, on 73 points.
