2023 ILCA 6 Youth and Men’s Worlds – Day 1

Dziwnow, Poland – Today was the first day of racing at the 2023 ILCA 6 Youth & Men’s World Championships, hosted by the Gdmina Dziwonow. 373 sailors representing 48 countries are enjoying perfect conditions to start the weeklong event. Two races were completed in W–SW wind, averaging 17–20 knots with gusts up to 25 knots and clear skies over the waters of Dziwnow.

The seven fleets were divided between two course areas, and the sailors went out on the water with enthusiasm and excitement for the breezy, wavy conditions.

In the youth men’s division, three sailors finished with just three points after today’s two races. Italy’s Mattia Cesana, two-time ILCA 6 Youth World Champion, was one of the three, in addition to Croatian Lovre Bakotić and Filip Olszewski of Poland.

In the youth women’s division, Roos Wind of The Netherlands holds the lead after winning today’s two races. Italy’s Maria Vittoria Arseni and Ginevra Caracciolo sit in second and third overall with only three and four points, respectively.

In the men’s division, Croatia’s Alex Cvinar won both races today to kick off the championship. Oliver Allen-Wilcox of Great Britain sits in second with five points, tied with Montenegro’s Nikola Golubovic.

At the end of the smooth race day, the sailors returned to shore, and pizza was waiting for them. Two more races are scheduled for tomorrow, with the first warning signal at 1200. Organizing partners are the Municipality of Dziwnow in conjunction with the Sailing Club Baltic Dziwnow and ILCA.
