49er Worlds – Day 3 – Harding and Wilmot qualify for Gold fleet in 4th place

Tears of Relief and Regret at Skiff Worlds

The third day of Qualifying at the 49er and 49erFX World Championships in Lanzarote brought a mix of emotions, with some sailors facing broken dreams and others celebrating success. Read more about the intense competition and heartbreaking moments in the article below.

Since last year’s Worlds in The Hague the tables have turned dramatically between two Australian teams. Last summer Olivia Price and Evie Haseldine won bronze while Laura Harding and Annie Wilmot finished 20th. After the end of today’s FX Qualifying, Harding and Wilmot are in fourth place. Price and Haseldine will be devastated to have missed Gold Fleet after finishing Qualifying in 30th place, despite winning the third race of today’s session.

In the 49er fleet, Jim Colley and Shaun Connor have been moving up the leader board steadily and have qualified for Gold fleet in 10th place.
