56th Manly Junior Australian Champonships

BYRA held the Manly Junior Nationals on the stunning waters of Pittwater from December 28-30. Great to see this class still going, with it’s novice and open fleets giving all the kids a chance to shine and get an even bigger grin on their faces. The MJ was where it all started for both my kids, Tash and Nathan over at Avalon Sailing Club, not very far from BYRA. I personally love the crewed boats as a learning platform as it adds an extra dynamic missing in the Opti world (but let’s not go there). Bigger kid teaching the smaller kid and then progressing on to a Flying 11 – a great combination.

The Manly Junior Open fleet have Scratch and Handicap results. This year it was Slipstream sailed by Baden and Hunter Thomas from Manly 16s who took the Scratch win and the honour having their name up alongside a veritable who’s who of Australian Sailing over the years. Five Star sailed by Noah Windust and Nixon Lydement also from Manly16s took out the Handicap win.

In the Novice fleet, it was great to see RPAYC entry Itwillkeel sailed by Olivia Dorling and Frankie Wray winning on Scratch, with Sienna and Harrison Logan from Manyl 16s sailing Steady Eddy to a Handicap win.
