Excitement is building for the 57th NSW MG14 Championships which are set to take place at the Port Hunter 16ft Skiff Club on 8th and 9th March 2025. This event promises to showcase some of the best sailing talent on the east coast, following the recent success of Katie Bundred and Adam Walsh from Queensland at the MG14 Nationals held at Toronto Amateur Sailing Club.
The long-established high-performance MG14 is a fast competitive skiff which is exhilarating to sail. It has the same size main and jib as an NS14 but also has a trapeze and an asymmetric spinnaker. The rig is very manageable for smaller crews and there is no age limitation making the MG14 ideal for family combinations as well as for seriously competitive crews.
The Venue: Port Hunter 16ft Skiff Club
Port Hunter 16ft Skiff Club is renowned for its vibrant sailing community and picturesque location on the Hunter River. The club has been a hub for high-performance skiff sailing, and the MG14 class is a core part of the club. With its great facilities and supportive environment, it’s the perfect setting for a thrilling championship.
Anticipated Competitors
With the recent Nationals win by Katie and Adam, there’s a buzz around their participation and potential to dominate the fleet once again. The current Queensland Champion “Cin Cin” sailed by Bernard and Luke from Cronulla Sailing Club will compete for the NSW championship with other top contenders, including Josh Franklin and Mona Rasera (Qld) who gained a second at the recent Nationals and third place-getters Jim Kerrison and Deb Stenning (NSW).
