Preparations are well underway for the 2019 Multihull Solutions Phuket Regatta from 12-15 July with the event now the largest multihull-only regatta in Asia.
Organised and operated by Phuket Yacht Club and staged on the spectacular waterways of Chalong Bay, the Multihull Solutions Regatta is one of the most affordable and enjoyable events in the Asia Pacific region.
Early bird discounts are still available until mid-June with entry fees starting from just 2,000THB (AUD$92) per person or 6,000THB (AUD$265).
The regatta is open to all multihulls (catamarans and trimarans) with a length overall of greater than six metres. Private and charter multihulls are welcome to enter, and the regatta’s classes include Racing Multihulls, Firefly 850 Sports One Design, Cruising Multihulls without OMR Ratings, and Corsair Pulse 600s.
Participants can also charter a multihull for entry from the region’s leading operators, with available charter models including Corsair Pulse 600s, a Laguna 48 with skipper, Fountaine Pajot Bahia 46 with skipper, Lagoon 450, Lagoon 380, plus many more.
Race director Tom Cracknell said the regatta is perfect for those looking for both competitive and social sailing conditions.
“While the Multihull Solutions Phuket Regatta is a very competitive event for most sailors, cruising multihulls are also welcome to participate in a much more relaxed and laid-back atmosphere,” Tom said.
“Chalong Bay and its surrounding islands offer some spectacular cruising opportunities and the event’s Cruising Class courses are specifically designed to showcase the beautiful scenery,” he said.
The 2019 racing schedule has been slightly modified from previous years to maximise sailing time while still allowing a couple of day for participants to prepare for the Cape Panwa Phuket Race Week.
Registration and weigh-in commence on Friday 12 July 12 with racing from Saturday 13 July through to Monday 15 July.
Multihull Solutions Asia general manager Andrew de Bruin said the company was thrilled to return as major sponsor of the regatta in 2019.
“This will be the sixth consecutive year that Multihull Solutions has partnered with the Phuket Yacht Club in this event to promote multihull sailing, cruising and racing in Thailand and beyond,” Andrew said.
“We are really looking forward to July and the beautiful sailing conditions the southwesterly monsoon has to offer. The southern Phuket islands are stunning and ideally suited for swimming, sailing, diving, and fishing, and a multihull is the perfect platform for these activities,” he said.
