Around 4:00 PM Friday afternoon Morgan County Rescue Squad along with several other Public Safety Agencies responded to a boater in distress.
The operator of the boat had been hunting and was returning to Ingalls Harbor when the high winds kept blowing water into his boat.
The boat started sinking due to all the water in the boat. The adult male operator of the boat luckily had his life preserver on and started to float in the cold water. The driver also had his cell phone in a protective case and was able to call 911 to start help heading his way.
Morgan County Rescue Squad, Decatur Fire & Rescue, Decatur Police Department and First Response Ambulance all responded to the call. Med-Flight Helicopter also responded and was standing by at Ingalls Harbor if needed.
The male was located on the Limestone County side of the Tennessee River near an area known as Beulah Bay. He was wet and extremely cold.
Morgan County Rescue Squad Boat who had paramedics from Decatur Fire & Rescue on board loaded him onto the boat and transported him to Ingalls Harbor to an ambulance that was standing by.
The male was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
