The winners of the final event of the 2018 professional Global Kitesports Association (GKA) Kite-Surf World Tour were announced at Point Danger, Torquay today, with Australia’s World No 3, Keahi de Aboitiz, winning the Men’s Single Elimination, moving him up to the World No 2 ranking.
In the Women’s Single Elimination Final, Australian wildcard winner, Jennie Milton (sister of successful Australian Paralympic athlete, Michael Milton OAM), took fourth place, incredible considering she secured a wildcard entry at Point Danger last weekend at the Kiteboarding Australian’s.
Twenty-four of the world’s best kite-surfers, including two Australians (Keahi and World No 8, James Carew), are competing over five days in the first international kitesurfing competition to be held in Australia.
The double eliminations will continue tomorrow with the 2018 Men’s and Women’s World champions to be determined and crowned at Point Danger (6.30pm).
The Australian Kite-Surf World Cup is to follow a series of competitions held around the world in places such as Cape Verde, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Mauritius and Brazil.
The GKA Kite-Surf World Tour is the peak professional international series for wave and strapless freestyle kite-surfing. The Australian GKA Kite-Surf World Cup event is supported by the Victorian Government, and the Surf Coast Shire along with Kiteboarding Australia and Kiteboarding Victoria.
