GAC Pindar announce Antipodean crew for Extreme Sailing Series season finale in Sydney Harbour

Sydney, Australia, 30th November – Australian Seve Jarvin and Kiwi Adam Minoprio will be GAC Pindar’s co-skippers in the final leg of the Extreme Sailing Series in Sydney next month. They will be joined by James Wierzbowski (AUS), Tyson Lamond (AUS) and Jeremy Lomas (NZL) to complete the all-Antipodean crew.

GAC Pindar is betting on the combination of Minoprio’s experience, leadership and winning mentality with the local knowledge and skill of Jarvin, who grew up sailing in Sydney Harbour, being a winning formula.

Sydney will be culmination of a strong season for GAC Pindar, with the team regularly competing for top spot in races throughout the Series. In a stunning final day in St Petersburg, Russia, they claimed five podium finishes, including three first place finishes in a row. They have just lacked the consistency over all four days of each regatta to claim their first overall podium finish – with fourth place finishes in Cardiff and St Petersburg.

Seve Jarvin hopes they have the balance right this time around to go out and give his home fans something to cheer about.
“It’s always so exciting competing in Sydney Harbour surrounded by the home crowds. I grew up sailing these waters, so know them like the back of my hand. With James and Tyson on board, we should have the backing of the grandstands, and hopefully that can give us the edge over the competition and give us with the impetus to end what has already been a very successful season on a high.”

GAC Pindar Team Principal Andrew Pindar adds: “2015 has been a great year for GAC Pindar in which we’ve continued to improve throughout the season. It’s always great fun to come to Sydney and compete. Given our Australian backbone, the guys are determined to put on a great show for the crowds. Last year we made the headlines for all the wrong reasons when we produced one of the most spectacular capsizes in Extreme Sailing Series history. This year we plan to change all that and we hope that this year’s enduring image will be of the guys on top of the podium.”

Racing begins in Sydney Harbour at 14:30 (GMT+11) on Thursday 10th December 2015.
