Keep heading north, SYC tells Pittwater – Coffs competitors

Southport Yacht Club, on the Gold Coast, is planning an extension to the annual Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Race which is scheduled to start on January 2, 2016.

Competitors in the 35th annual Club Marine Pittwater to Coffs Race will be encouraged to compete in the Coffs to Paradise race, starting January 7, then Southport Yacht Club’s signature regatta for the summer season, Sail Paradise.

The schedule is designed to give sailors some high-summer coastal racing while their families and friends can join them on the Gold Coast for fun times during the staging of Sail Paradise.

Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, as organisers of the Pittwater to Coffs race, and Coffs Harbour Yacht Club are supporting the staging of the 150 nautical mile Coffs to Paradise race. The Pittwater to Coffs race covers 226 nautical miles.

A special trophy will be created to recognise the yacht with the best combined results in the Pittwater to Coffs and the Coffs to Paradise races.

Sail Paradise is open to monohulls and multihulls of all classifications, as well as off-the-beach dinghies and catamarans. The regatta will be staged from Wednesday, January 13 to Sunday, January 17. There will be a lay-day on the Friday, and off-the-beach classes will participate over the weekend as part of the regatta.

“Just as we will be encouraging yachts from our side of the border to compete in the Pittwater to Coffs race, we are hoping southern sailors will continue on to the Gold Coast then enjoy some great sailing and holiday fun during Sail Paradise,” said Southport Yacht Club’s Commodore, Phil Short. “Sail Paradise is scheduled at the perfect time of the year for excellent racing just off our magnificent ocean beaches. Also, the summer weather in January is perfect for families to enjoy their time to the fullest on the Gold Coast – Australia’s premier tourism destination.”

Short also confirmed that an entertaining social program had been planned for Sail Paradise competitors, their families and friends. This will include an escape on the lay-day to Southport Yacht Club’s secluded hideaway, Dux, which is sited at a waterfront location on South Stradbroke Island.

Details for Sail Paradise 2016 can be found on the regatta website: www.sailparadise.com.au.
