The recent theft of a cruising yacht in New Zealand, which was spotted and reclaimed in Australia, has increased interest in tracking devices for yachts. One such product is Spot Trace.
The agents say that while most tracking devices have a short battery life and need mobile phone coverage, the Spot Trace has a long battery life (up to 18 months) and uses the Globalstar Satellite communication network so it works virtually anywhere in the world, even far out to sea.
The product automatically notifies the owner via email or text when movement is detected. You can then view your Spot Trace’s movement on your Smartphone or online, in near real-time, using Google Maps.
Spot Trace is available through All Sat Communications resellers. It has a RRP of $189 and an annual service plan starting at USD$119. For more information on the SPOT Trace or to see the other satellite safety products visit www.allsat.com.au.
