After the success of its 400 and 450M yachts, Bluewater Cruising Yachts has introduced its latest innovation – the Bluewater 520 Pilot House. The ultimate 52-foot cruising yacht, the 520 is an evolution of Bluewater's previous designs with a cockpit that is protected by a built-in dodger and sun roof, coupled with a true pilot house deck configuration for live-aboard luxury. As is the case with all of Bluewater's designs, the 520 is custom-built to create a one-of-a-kind vessel for each owner.
Based on a Bruce Farr-designed, high performance GRP cruising hull, the 520 includes the added convenience of an optional hydraulic lifting bulbous keel. “This makes it perfect for cruising shallow anchorages, such as Lake Macquarie and Queensland's Broadwater in Australia, as well as tricky ports anywhere in the world,” says David Bradburn, Managing Director of Bluewater Cruising Yachts. “The advantage of 52-foot yachts is their ability to travel great distances in the open seas and their greater level of comfort afforded to owner and guests without the need for hired crew,” he says.
The latest Bluewater vessel is also ideal for entering local and offshore races, offering the owner an additional way to enjoy its versatility.
The cockpit can be fully enclosed with drop down side and rear clears, protecting guests from the elements. It can be heated or cooled, as needed, and screened from insects. The roof is retractable for both fine and foul weather sailing. All controls lead to the twin helm station, which is separate from the guest cockpit. This makes for a much more comfortable sailing experience, as seven guests can sit in the forward cockpit away from the action while still enjoying the exhilaration of sailing.
The 520 Pilot House features a lavish three-cabin layout. The owner's stateroom is aft for more comfort while at sea and features a king-sized bed, as well as abundant seating, hanging locker space, and an ensuite head with separate shower. The large saloon seats up to ten guests, while the large U-shaped galley contains a full height front-opening fridge/freezer and can be extended to the full width of the hull.
