Legendary Excellence…
During one week, over one hundred yachts will offer a sublime display of sailing regattas in the bay of Cannes. The most prestigious sailors of the world will meet for the Régates Royales -Trophée Panerai. Committed to the event, Moonbeam IV, Moonbeam of five III, Avel, Thendara… will write a new page in the history of the Régates Royales.
The Pen Duick fleet: Pen Duick, Pen Duick II, Pen Duick III, Pen Duick V and Pen Duick VI, who have taken Eric Tabarly on his sailing adventures, will also be present in Cannes.
The 2009 edition promises to be once again emotion-packed; as always, the event will be carried out in the pure tradition of the distinguished yachting of the roaring twenties, for these are in most part, truly unique boats in the world.
The Dragons
Since their return to Cannes in 1987 thanks to the dynamic fleet captain Jean-Pierre Gailes, the Dragons have not ceased to stun and delight monotype regatta lovers. Well run by an international association and by the Mediterranean association (Cannes Dragon International – http://gailes.free.fr), this little marvel designed by the Norwegian Johan Anker in 1929 is going though an extraordinary revival. Small boat of princes and prince of small boats, the Dragon makes for friendly competition yet truly fierce and very spectacular on the water.
In the race village…
For the 31st edition, the Régates Royales – Trophée Panerai will enliven Cannes harbour. “2009 will bring joy and a good mood. The village will come to life every evening with different themes, allowing owners, skippers, crew, partners, volunteers and spectators to socialise all together. This new entertainment will bring us together and create memories of Cannes. Let us not forget that the sporting side of things is also very competitive and this is what is the heart of the event” explains Jean-Claude Montesinos, president of the Cannes Yacht Club.
