Souter increases her lead at compasscard Women's Match Race series.

The Australian Sailing Development Squad's Nicky Souter has continued her winning ways at the 2009 compasscard Australian Women's Match Racing Championship, stretching her unbeaten run to 16 races, after two days of competition.

Souter and crew Nina Curtis and Nicole Douglass have been unstoppable so far and head into Wednesday's final round robin races and semi-finals in a great position.

“Once you start the semis it doesn't matter how many round robin races you've won, everybody gets a clean slate and it's time to start again,” said Souter. “We've got a couple of harder days coming up and we've now got to win the races that matter.”

“That being said our goal is still to go through the round robin phase undefeated and have plenty of momentum going into the semis,” she said.

Fellow ASDS skipper Katie Spithill, with crew Samantha Boyd and Rayshele Martin, are now in third position, with an 11-5 record, one win behind New Zealand's Samantha Osborne who finished the second day 12-4.

Lucinda Whitty, Olivia Price and Jess Eastwell round out the top four with a record of 10-6, while Amanda Scrivenor, Kat Stroinovsky and Stacey Jackson have had seven wins and nine losses.

“Nicky and crew have sailed very nicely in the shifty conditions,” said Australian Women's Match Racing Coach Dayne Sharp. “They've consistently won the starts and are using that to go on and win the matches.”

Racing continues on Wednesday with the final flights of the second round robin before the crews head into the semi finals with the champion to be crowned on Thursday, 3 September.
