How Boats Work – Book
For once, a genuinely useful book for sailors. Charlie Wing's practical guide is presented in the easy-to-read, large-format style of a technical manual. The illustrations are simple and clear and feature “exploded” views of mechanical equipment – invaluable when it comes to dis-assembly and maintenance of unfamiliar gear.

How Boat Things Work assumes no prior knowledge but is much more than a beginner's guide. It covers engines and transmissions, steering, rigging, line handling, ground tackle, electrical, plumbing and refrigeration. The section on winch and roller furling construction is worth the cover price alone.

The author is an American cruising yachtsmen of vast experience and boundless curiosity about how things on his boats work. The result of his collected wisdom is a book that should nestle in every ship's library – and will be certain to be used more than most.
