LAUNCHES: HARMONY 42
The first boat in the French Harmony range has just been launched by distributor B&H Marine of Pittwater.
The Harmony 42, Elegance was handed to her new owner after the Sydney International Boat Show.
Designed by naval architects Mortain & Mavrikios, the French Harmony range comprises 31, 34, 38, 42, 47 and 52 foot models.
The aim of the Poncin Group, which owns the range, was to design a “smart cruiser” with a sleek look aided by lower topsides, yet have comfortable living spaces for family cruising. With a competitive entry price of $149,000 for the 31 footer and $299,000 for the newly launched 42, the range looks good value for money.
According to Poncin Group, 25 million Euros were invested in the production process, resulting in automated production from the modern factory in La Rochelle, minimising costs.
The build uses PVC foam sandwich in the hull and polyester with Kevlar reinforced floor plates.
The technique used, Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM), puts the hull together with its structural grid in one sequence, with the same process used for the deck and ceiling. To ensure consistency of material, resin is vacuum infused and injected inside a closed mould to bond the fibre layers.
The hull is of moderate displacement with fine lines, long waterline length, deep keel and high sail displacement ratio for performance and handling.
The sail plan emphasises ease of handling with a small overlapping genoa, lazyjack main and asymmetrical spinnaker, especially suited to charter cruising and short-handed racing.
The deck layout allows for ease of movement with genoa tracks on the coach roof and shrouds attached to the chain plates on the toe rail. An enclosed cockpit helps to ensure the safety of the crew, family and small children at sea.
Below decks the three cabin and one head layout is airy with classically styled cherry-blond joinery, elegant upholstery and the use of modern finishes such as Corian on countertops. A 200L fridge is standard on all models in the range.
