Outteridge and Jensen lead 49er Nationals by 5 points

Day 2 of the regatta closed with a breathtaking race to the finish line in race 4 where Australia's Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen took first place over New Zealand's Peter Buling and Blair Tuke within metres of the finish line. Ireland's Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern followed close on their heels with Australia's Will and Sam Phillips breathing down their necks.

Afternoon racing saw a depleted fleet with two teams opting out of the strong conditions, and Bruce Waters and Mattie Zuppini retiring with broken battens after capsizing in a gusty breeze. Yesterday's third place holder Will and Sam Phillips came from a middle of the fleet start in race 3 to cross the finish line second behind Outteridge and Jensen, followed by New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa's Clinton Wade-Lehmann and Jo De Kock.

With eight of the fourteen races completed, Outteridge and Jensen lead Buling and Tuke by 5 points, with Will and Sam Phillips on 28 points, followed by Seaton and McGovern, and Western Australia's Tom Johnson and Rhys Mara in fifth place.
