Nautor’s Swan debuts 125 foot yacht at this year’s Rolex Fastnet Race

The designers, engineers, boatbuilders and the sailors at Nautor’s Swan in Finland have really upped the ante with the launch of their newest, largest and no doubt, the fastest sailing yacht they’ve ever built – Skorpios. In fact, their new ClubSwan125 looks powerful enough to break some of the world’s most hallowed sailing records and be called the ‘fastest monohull in the world.’

But the question is – how can this yacht become be a stone-cold record-breaking machine?

“The brief was at first for a very fast super yacht for inshore racing,” Enrico Chieffi, Nautor Group Vice President and CS125 Project Leader says. “But, as we were developing the project, it changed. We all realized, the owner at first, this yacht was meant to be a record-breaking machine.” And so here we are. The brief has changed, and the boat has been developed to be successful in offshore racing and intending to beat all the monohull records around the world.”

To achieve her extremely light displacement, the ClubSwan125 has a deep canting keel to reduce weight and increase righting moment. Meanwhile, the hull, deck, and structural parts were all made from high-strength, light-weight carbon fiber with Nomex and Corecell cores.
