Two new events from the Australian Wooden Boat Festival

Despite the Australian Wooden Boat Festival (AWBF) not being able to proceed with its usual biennial event in February 2021, festival organisers are pleased to announce two new local events for 2021.

A Parade of Sail, always a highlight of the AWBF, will be held to coincide with the Royal Hobart Regatta on 7 February 2021. This magnificent spectacle on the River Derwent will comprise boats of all shapes and sizes celebrating the rich maritime culture and community within Tasmania.

The spectacle of so many vessels under sail is always an attraction for families and especially for photographers. With so many vantage points on both sides of the river, small groups will be able to congregate and enjoy the Parade of Sail.

Secondly, the Maritime Trail 2021 will be held on 10 and 11 April 2021.

The Maritime Trail is an opportunity for all Tasmanians to explore unseen boatyards; tour marinas that showcase beautiful, classic wooden boats statewide; to take a journey on a tall ship; and much more.

The AWBF continues to thrive on the community support and involvement and looks forward to celebrating all things ‘wooden boats’ at both these events.

This is an exciting opportunity to encourage spectators to enjoy a day out admiring the sailing and also to travel to other regions less explored to delve into the stories of wooden boats and the people who build, restore and treasure them.

Both events have been designed to ensure adherence to social distancing and COVID-19 regulations. More details will be released as they are finalised.
