BIA this week is working with the South Australian Tourism Industry Council in a bid to seek further relaxation of restrictions in that State. This work feeds into two meetings of the SA Premiers Industry Response and Recovery Council, where the Premier wants advice on what restrictions should be lifted and in which order.
As the BIA team effort is to see a return of family recreational boating – especially as it is safe and can be conducted safely and appropriately in accordance with the required social distancing and disease control criteria – what could be more beneficial, when appropriate, than to have one family, under one roof on a houseboat again on the Murray River.
Meanwhile, BIA put its support behind a proposal for a waterfront/ boating redevelopment at North Haven in Adelaide.
The proposal would create an important ‘destination’ that would drive social, economic and environmental benefits to the region. This proposal would enhance the public and community experience through a waterfront activation.
It is expected that some 80 people would be employed through construction, probably up to 15 full time and 25 part time jobs when operational from early 2023.
The proposal would support all forms of boating across the three fundamental sectors of paddle, power and sail. This would include onsite storage for paddle craft to support the boom in paddling activity that is being experienced nationally.
