d’Albora powers solo Antarctic speed record attempt

d’Albora, Australia’s largest premium marina and hospitality network has continued its long running sponsorship with record-breaking solo sailor Lisa Blair as she prepares to embark on her latest adventure, a tilt at the speed record for circumnavigating Antarctica solo.

Already providing in-kind support, upon hearing that Lisa needed more funds to make it to the start line, d’Albora immediately purchased 30 degrees from the 360 degrees fundraising campaign. In doing so, we are supporting the sustainability and ocean science Lisa plans to undertake while sailing solo around Antarctica.

Julien Pouteau, General Manager Customer Experience at d’Albora, states: “A project like Lisa’s is so important for our environment with this being such a rare research opportunity for ocean health and micro plastics. When we heard she needed more support we didn’t hesitate to help. We will be following with great interest and wish Lisa every success.”

Lisa is setting off in February 2022 aboard her yacht Climate Action Now, where she will be looking to become the fastest person to sail solo, nonstop, and unassisted around Antarctica below 45 degrees. This has presented an opportunity to collect scientific data on ocean health, deploy weather drifter buoys and collect micro plastic samples in the most remote oceans of Antarctica. Few ships travel these areas and minimal data currently exists.

d’Albora has a strong marine sustainability focus as Australia’s largest marina group, with a network of 10 prime locations across Queensland, NSW and Victoria, focusing on berthing, boatyards, boat sales and waterfront hospitality. The company supports the environment with actions such as the Seabin Project, a Not-For-Profit fundraising organisation that address education, research and Innovation projects that result in cleaner oceans, as well as the non-for-profit Making Waves Foundation MWF – Creators of Change.
