Hobie 16 Worlds: Long wait for last chance to qualify

Day 3 Onsite Qualifying – It was cloudy, cool, and breezy for the final day of racing in the qualifying series of the Hobie 16 Worlds in Sant Pere Pescador, Spain, the day starting with light winds and an onshore postponement.

Sailors were sent off the beach at 1:45pm in 5 knots, but the wind was in another rapidly building cycle and quickly increased to 12 knots.

Two more races were completed in 12-14 knots with a much calmer sea state providing another great day of sailing.

After three days of competition the top 46 teams in the onsite qualifier will advance into the semi-finals.

Winning the qualifying series was Nicklas Heide-Joergensen/Emilie Strom Jacobsesn (DEN), followed by Daniel Christensen/Josephine Frederiksen (DEN) second and Rod Waterhouse/Bridget Bolewski (AUS) in third.

Tomorrow starts the semi-final rounds of the 2022 Hobie 16 Open World Championships. The onsite qualifiers will join the pre-qualified teams for a combined field of 96 teams that will complete over the next five days for the championship.
