Pattaya, Thailand – Day 2 of the 2023 ILCA 7 Masters World Championships at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club. Another beautiful day where competitors completed two races in a lighter breeze of 6–12 knots.
Great Grand Master sailor from South Africa, Campbell Alexander mentioned, “In the first race for us, the fleet went off all heading toward the mark on the left-hand side, but wind shifted, and it turned out the mark was on the right-hand side. The race officers were very kind to us, announced we’d gone to the wrong mark, and they abandoned the race. We all had to restart, which was very fortunate for some of us…particularly those who are a bit unfit. Although I had a better start on the first race, I was going the wrong way, so it helped me out. Tomorrow we’re hoping for stronger breeze like yesterday, it was brilliant.”
Thai Olympian Keerati Bualong, who remains in first place in the Apprentice division after one first-place finish today, was closely followed by United Arab Emirates Olympian Adil Khalid who finished first in the second race. Greek Olympian Adonis Bougiouris continued his streak from yesterday, finishing first in both races in the Masters Fleet. Similarly, in the Grand Masters fleet, Australian Brett Beyer also won both races today. Great Grand Master Tim Law from Great Britain continues atop the leaderboard in his division with Australians Colin Dibb and Stephen Gunther following closely behind.
