Update: At the time of writing, Acrobatica was only 41.8 nautical miles from the finish.
Wow what a battle so far! The racing has been extremely close in the first two days of the Charleston-Newport leg of the Atlantic Cup. Until 9pm ET last night seven of the eight teams were within just a few miles of each other.
While the teams spent much of yesterday in light air, they were still receiving a nice push from the Gulf Stream. Last night, after a lot of thunderstorms, the breeze has filled in and all teams are now launched for Newport with the French team Everial and Italian team Acrobatica pulling ahead in a very close battle for first!
With their current speeds between 12 and 15 knots, an early morning Tuesday arrival is expected for the first finishers. The race will finish just off Fort Adams and the teams will then proceed to Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard where they will be docked for the remainder of the week.
Fans are encouraged to come out on land or water to cheer on the finishers as they arrive. Race tracking updates every 15-minutes and will switch to every 5-minutes once the teams are 10 nautical miles out.
Head to the Race Tracking page on our website and follow the teams in real time thanks to YB Races.
