Barcelona continued it’s mixed weather conditions as the rain set in early on Friday 20 September. The Group B (invited) teams took to the water for their first race of the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup at 2:20pm (CEST) following being delayed for two days due to conditions.
Race One was a challenging race throughout. Andoo Team Australia was the only team to start without a penalty. The race saw all teams struggling to stay on the foils across the course. The Australian team struggled to stay in the breeze and finished fifth. The Swedish Challenge Team Powered by Artemis looked comfortable in front and at one stage looking like the only team set to meet the finishing time, however they fell victim to the patchy breeze and finished third. It was local knowledge that paid off, with the Spanish Sail Team BCN taking the win, with Canada picking the last leg well to move from last to second place.
Race two was delayed for over an hour as the breeze struggled to settle before the Race Committee abandoned racing for the day. Group B will continue racing at 2:00pm CEST (10:00pm AEST) tomorrow, Saturday 21 September.

Skipper Cole Tapper described the first outing as relieving, exciting but a little disappointing. “It was really special to start” he said.
He is feeling confident in his team for the next day racing tomorrow, saying the team were clear about their learnings and are confident in their process.
Andoo Team Australia is next scheduled to race on 21 September.
