ROCKWOOL DEN driver Nicolai Sehested has hinted at a desire to take more risks this season after the team’s impressive performance in Auckland.
The team had a mixed opening day with 6-5-5-5 finishes, but bounced back in the gusty conditions of day two with race wins in the last two fleet races. This left the Danes in 5th place overall with 44 points.
Reflecting on the event, Sehested said the team thrived in the heavy winds of Auckland. “We always love the big breeze – or at least we’ve learned to do that now.”
The team, he said, had ‘pushed hard’, resulting in a few crashes. One memorable moment before racing started on day two saw the Danish come close to capsizing before managing to right their F50 in the nick of time. Their riskier approach on the racecourse however was justified by the team’s second day results.
“It pays off if you’re happy to put your foot down and hope for the best sometimes,” he said.
Looking back on Auckland, he said the team ‘would have loved to have been in the Final’, but mixed results on day one and a two point penalty for hitting a mark in the seventh fleet race pushed the team down the rankings.
However, he disputed the two point penalty for the mark crash. “Unless they can show us the proof, I’m denying that we hit anything,” he said.
