- Antigua’s first ever around the world yacht race starts Sunday 23rd February 1530UTC ( 1130am local) from inside Falmouth Harbour with the National Sailing Academy, official hosts of the MGR, firing the start gun.
- 15 qualified solo sailors from eight countries will attempt to race their 19ft/5.8mtr home-made plywood ALMA Globe 580 yachts 26000 miles around the globe in this challenging and adventurous world first event.
- The MGR Sails in the footsteps of John Guzzwell who in 1955 sailed his 21ft timber home-built yacht TREKKA solo around the world, the first “Mini” ever to do so.
- GLOBE YACHT CLUB for circumnavigators officially launched with the presentation of the first GYC Burgee to His Excellency Governor-General Antigua Barbuda Mr Rodney Williams at the MGR welcome reception.
- MGR skippers take sailability and school children, sailing on Falmouth Harbour.
On Feb. 23rd at 11.30am local time, 15 solo sailors will set off from Falmouth Harbour ANTIGUA in home-built ALMA GLOBE 580, 19ft-5.8 metre plywood yachts to race 26000 miles around the world. They will not return until March of 2026! This is the first time Antigua has ever hosted an around the world yacht race and this one is sure to attract the attention of people around the Globe.
This world first event, never attempted in mini yachts is hosted by the National Sailing Academy where all entrants are moored making final preparations and counting down to the start.
