A Challenging Day on the Med at Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Fergus Hotels Sailing Grand Slam.
Overcast skies and shifty, gusty winds made for a tricky day in Palma, testing the sailors’ adaptability. Some thrived in the changing conditions, while others fought hard to stay in the mix.
Zac Littlewood found his rhythm in the ILCA 7, posting a 7th and 2nd to move up to 8th overall. Ethan McAullay had a tougher day but remains in the fight with two more days of Gold Fleet racing ahead.
Over in the iQFOiL, Grae Morris picked up a 1st and 3rd in the sprint slalom to hold 3rd overall. The standout performer of the day was young Queenslander Rory Meehan, who delivered three top-three finishes, including his first international win! With qualifying now complete, the iQFOiL fleet splits into Gold and Silver, and Rory’s outstanding day secured his spot in Gold Fleet racing.
The Nacra 17 squad continues to charge, with Archie Gargett & Sarah Hoffman grabbing a 2nd place in one of their four races, cracking the top 10 for the first time this event. Brin Liddell & Rhiannan Brown also posted a top-3 finish, but their steady consistency keeps them in 6th overall.
These are just the highlights – Aussies are battling across the field, learning from the strong international competition, and pushing hard in every race.
