This Thursday, November 19, go behind-the-scenes with the Australia SailGP Team as Winning Calls with Oracle, the virtual race-viewing event series, gives fans unprecedented access into how strategic decisions and powerful data analysis power winning performances by the team.
Developed by SailGP in partnership with Oracle, the Australia team’s episode will be the final installment of the seven part series, which has featured athletes, coaches and data analysts from all SailGP national teams rewatching SailGP’s best action to-date. SailGP presenter Ed Leigh, known for his coverage of action and adventure sports including the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, serves as the main series host, drawing insights out of the athletes and analysts, and conducting fan Q&As.
Fans of the Australia SailGP Team can tune in this Thursday, November 19 at 10 a.m. AEDT to experience the in-depth rewatch and analysis of the team’s nail-biting championship race from SailGP Season 1, alongside live appearances by Tom Slingsby and Kyle Langford. Fans will then be able to put their questions to the team in a live Q&A following the discussion.
“It was an incredible moment for our country to be champions in the first season of SailGP, but there was so much that went into that race that the fans didn’t get to see in terms of how we utilised the data to give ourselves the best chance of success,” said Slingsby.
“I think it will be interesting for fans to see how as a team we use this data to drive our performance on the water and the role it plays in post-race analysis. We'll also be doing a live Q&A during the session so people will have the opportunity to ask any burning questions they have on the championship race and how we race the F50.”
SailGP CMO Tim Godfrey said, “The Winning Calls with Oracle series has given us the opportunity to bring our athletes and fans closer together during these unprecedented times. With the help of our global partner Oracle, we have been able to provide never-before-shared insight into the data-driven, split-second decisions that are made during the world’s fastest sail racing.”
SailGP is unique in the sporting world as all of the data is delivered in real-time from the Oracle Cloud and is open-source. After each on-water session, the teams pour through terabytes of data – both their own and that of their competitors – to see how to continually improve and gain a competitive edge while racing in boats that all feature the same design and technology.
