Australian Quarter and Half Ton Championships postponed

he 2019 Australian Ton Cup has been reluctantly postponed as a result of some technical issues complicating the compliance and entry requirement which then directly contributed to entries that failed to meet expectations.

The Australian Ton Cup Association in conjunction with the Organising Authority, the Gosford Sailing Club, resurrected the Ton Cup last year with the planned regatta to take place in February. Our early marketing suggested we could expect a fleet of over 18 yachts for the inaugural regatta.

However, we recently learned we have had huge competition from the extensive Australian Etchells program, depleting potential entrants of crew.

Coupled with fleet rating management issues – the AO is determined keep the integrity and spirit of the Ton Cup event of level rating and competitive racing – it felt it needed more time to allow all potential entrants to make sure they can comply in order to establish the ton yacht fleet before launching into the Australian Championships.

All competitors for the 2019 regatta have been notified and have received full refunds.

The AO is therefore committed to run an event before the end of the season and details will be released in the coming days.

In the meantime, the AO would like to thank boat owners and the potential entrants for their support. It has been extremely reassuring in that we are developing the right formula for a regatta for these worthy boats.

Please save 31 January to 2 February, 2020, for the inaugural Australian Championships.
