The Queensland Government today announced its response to a 100-Day Review of infrastructure and planning needs ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, which revealed the host venues of the sailing competition for the Games will be Townsville and The Whitsundays.
The decision will provide one of the most scenic backdrops of the Games, showcasing the iconic beauty of Far North Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef to the estimated 3 billion Olympic broadcast viewers worldwide.
“There is an extremely strong connection between sailing and the communities in North Queensland, and we are pleased that we will have the opportunity to provide a regional legacy for the 2032 Olympic Games.” said Australian Sailing President Shevaun Bruland.
“We appreciate that the Queensland Government has taken the time reviewing this hugely important decision for our sport.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase our sport, with North Queensland offering some of the most beautiful, pristine and competitive sailing courses in the world.”
Australian Sailing will work with our affiliated clubs who are impacted by this decision and want to ensure a legacy for the sport both in Brisbane and at the host venues.
“The Organising Committee’s decision will have a lasting impact on sailing and our clubs, and we will work with all parties to ensure the best result for the sport, the Games, Queensland and Olympic viewers around the world,” concluded Bruland.
