Fremantle Sailing Club (FSC) and its Women’s Racing and Mentorship Program (RAMP) are pleased to announce their successful bid to host both the 2025 and 2026 Australian Women’s Match Racing Championships.
Hosting this event will see world ranked athletes from around Australia sailing in Freo waters and will give women of Western Australia an opportunity to compete at a high level in their own backyard.
A message from the Mayor of the City of Fremantle:
“We are excited to welcome some of the world’s most talented female sailors to Fremantle.”
“I expect to see some fierce competition on the water, but also a strong sense of community and camaraderie among these elite athletes. Sailing has an amazing ability to bring people together.”
“It’s a thrilling sport to watch and I hope the community takes the opportunity to get down and see some of the action. The tactics and teamwork on display are quite impressive.”
“I congratulate the Fremantle Sailing Club for securing the hosting rights of this prestigious annual event for the next two years. We look forward to welcoming competitors and their families and friends to Fremantle – the spiritual home of sailing in Western Australia.”
“The Fremantle Sailing Club has done amazing things for female participation and growth over the past few years with their Women’s Racing and Mentorship Program, otherwise known as RAMP. This award-winning initiative encourages women of all ages to enjoy the many different aspects of sailing, with social events, skills development and racing opportunities.”
Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzharding
Our bid has been driven by our Women’s RAMP group who have been growing women’s sailing at FSC for a number of years and are the current winners of Australian Sailing’s national ‘She Sails’ Award recognizing the promotion and achievement of women’s sailing in Australia.
Racing will be conducted in the beautiful semi-protected coastal waters of Fremantle and with the regattas being held in the month of September the conditions will be ideal with warm days and typically great springtime wind conditions.
Fremantle is without doubt the home of sailing in the west and Fremantle Sailing Club is committed to cultivating a diverse membership with shared interests. The club passionately promotes and upholds its reputation for providing an outstanding boating experience for our members, guests and the Fremantle community.
Fremantle is not only a great place to sail, but also a great tourist destination with lots of things to see and do.
We look forward to welcoming competitors and their family and friends and spectators to Fremantle, Western Australia.
Craig Evans, CEO, Fremantle Sailing Club.
