Big boat racing postponed on day three of Sail Paradise Regatta

The decision was made this morning by the race committee to postpone the keel boat and multihull performance racing on day three of the 2016 Bartercard Sail Paradise Regatta.

Conditions this morning at the Gold Coast seaway entrance were waves in excess of two metres with the probability of the conditions worsening as the yachts were to enter back into the Broadwater. These conditions were obviously unsafe and new plans needed to be made. An assessment of racing inshore occurred for the larger boats, however the conditions were also not feasible in the circumstances.

Race committee member and Director of Southport Yacht Club, Ray McMahon said “the safety was paramount in the decision for the reschedule of today’s race and that SYC have been monitoring the weather conditions closely before a decision was made on the postponement”.

Three offshore races are scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday 17th January to ensure the full racing calendar is completed within the event.
