Botticini wins Foiling Week

Italian WASZP sailor Ettore Botticini announced himself as a major contender for the International WASZP Games after winning foiling week by 2 points from Irish sailor Charles Cullen and fellow Italian Enzio Savoini.

After 4 days of great racing, the top 3 sailors were separated by just 5 points with a match race between Savoini and Botticini in the final race allowing Cullen to take the win and move into 2nd place overall.

The fleet of 65 included a number of internationals, tasting big fleet racing for the first time since 2019, Elise Beavis and Mathilde Robertstad went head to head for the women title with Robertstad improving as the event went on to finish 14th overall and Beavis in 17th. Robertstad proved her big race credentials with a 3rd place in the final race.

With just under 1 week to go until the 2022 International WASZP Games excitement has hit fever pitch with currently 169 entries from 26 nations taken so far. There is still time to enter the event, no matter what level you are at, if you have a WASZP or have access to a WASZP you will not want to miss this incredible event.

Numbers are swelling for the Pre-Games with a lot of internationals hitting the water, headed up by the 14-strong Australian team who will be looking to push hard and promote for the 2023 International Games in Sorrento Australia.
