Up to 150 of New Zealand’s yachts will create a mass spectacle in Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour for the start of the PIC Coastal Classic off Devonport Wharf when the race gets underway on October 21 at 10am.
The PIC Coastal Classic is one of the largest coastal yacht races in the Southern Hemisphere and has marked the start of the summer boating season for 40 years and 2022 marks the 40th anniversary.
A straight out drag race of 119 nautical miles, the Coast Classic finishes off Russell Wharf in the Bay of Islands. It not only attracts the elite of New Zealand yachting’s high performance fleet, but also classics, family cruisers, and small boats, whose owners enter for the challenge and fun of taking part in a long distance coastal race.
The race is split into multiple starting divisions based on the speed of the yachts, with starts at 9:30, 9:45 and 10:00am.
