Cracking the F50 code

The rising trajectory of the New Zealand SailGP Team, which topped the podium for the first time in Plymouth, has been captured in the latest episode of the league’s behind-the-scene docuseries Racing on the Edge.

With unprecedented access into the league, the third episode of the season reflects on the team’s underwhelming entrance into the league in Season 2 before appointing coach Ray Davis at the start of this season.

Clearer communication and faster decision-making contributed to the improving performance of the team, which finally topped the podium for the first time after sailing a masterful race to beat Denmark and Australia at the Great Britain Sail Grand Prix in Plymouth.

“I think we’re still miles away from cracking the F50 code,” says driver Peter Burling. “I think that’s the exciting thing about our group. We’ve always known that we’ve got some pretty amazing talent on board and we feel we’ve got so much more to go from here.”

Racing on the Edge features behind-the scenes-insight and up-close interviews with the Championship’s biggest personalities, including New Zealand’s Blair Tuke and Peter Burling, Australia driver Tom Slingsby and driver of Great Britain, Ben Ainslie.
