Cruisers warned of Thai island troubles

Anthony Gates from Andaman Marine Surveyors, provided some links to media reports on some suspicious behaviour on the Thai island named Ko Dua on the charts. It is near the Ko Chong Lat group of islands, North of Ko Yao Noi in Phang Nga Bay.

Bomb making equipment has been found on the island in a cave, with two people arrested.

Apparently police were searching neighbouring islands after a man was killed by treading on a mine on another nearby. Both islands have lucrative bird nesting franchises but it is unknown as to the reasoning behind the laying of mines and the bomb-making.

Gates says the area is off the tourist speedboat run which, therefore, makes it of more interest to cruising yachties who wish to get away from the hordes.
