Eleven international teams to compete in the 33rd Copa del Rey Mapre

Eleven teams from seven different nations will compete for the 33rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE in the Nespresso X-35 class. The international fleet of X-35 will pit their skills in the Bay of Palma for the eighth consecutive year.

The X-35 fleet has been competing in the Copa del Rey MAPFRE almost since its debut as a one-design class. They raced in Palma for the first time in 2007, and this year they will compete as a class for the eighth consecutive year. “We are attracted to the Bay of Palma, the yacht club, the scenery, the fantastic treatment that we always receive…,” says Miquel Colomer, the class secretary in Spain. “Moreover, the race course never fails; Palma’s conditions are superb.”

This year, 11 teams from seven different nations will compete in the Nespresso X-35 class. The list of pre-registered entries includes three Spanish boats, two Finnish, two Italian, one Russian, one Dutch, one German and one British. “The participation is international, with a very high level,” continues explaining Colomer. “In this class you must always be prepared for surprises. It’s not is not easy to talk about any favourites, but this year I would highlight Italian Lelagain – world champion in 2009 and 2010, and winner of the Copa del Rey in 2010- both Finnish teams or German X on The Beach, and we shouldn’t forget about Red Eléctrica de España, which each year fights for the first places.”

The Nespresso X-35 fleet will sail a maximum of 12 races in the 33rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE, between Monday, August 4th, and Saturday 9th.
