Dr Simon Torvaldsen’s brand new JPK 11.80 “Atomic Blonde” follows in the tradition of his previous JPK a Winner of WA’s prestigious Siska Trophy in 2021.
Made in Australia for JPK Pacific by Innovation Composites the new JPK 11.80 will be launched in Sydney the first week of October and campaigned for the 2023 Hobart.
“Atomic Blonde” will compete in the qualifying long races for the “Blue Water Classic” to bring the boat up to optimum speed with its Axxon rig configuration and North Sails inventory.
Experienced and well-known Sydney yachtsman Larry Jamieson has been appointed Sailing Master. Larry has an extensive resume of success with his many wins on the international regatta circuit and Overall Handicap wins in the Hobart on “Wild Oats” and “Aera”
Larry said “ I am excited to be involved with the JPK 11.80 campaign on “Atomic Blonde” as I have watched the production process at Innovation Composites and the meticulous planning of Dr Torvaldsen and the JPK Pacific team. Involvement with an Australian made boat gives me the opportunity to be at the forefront of resurgence in boat building in Australia. The JPK 11.80’s have been
successful in the Fastnet races over the past couple of years in challenging conditions. Hopefully the “Sailing Gods” will grant suitable conditions for us as I believe we will be competitive on the Hobart racetrack.”
“Atomic Blonde” will also have the experienced George Kennedy from the UK a crew member of the successful JPK 11.80 “Sunrise”.
“Atomic Blonde” will race with a crew of 8 decreasing the crew management burden and general costs on owners. As Dr Torvaldsen said “this brings an extra affordability benefit of the JPK 11.80 into play as a race yacht with a crew of just 8 delivers savings in a number of areas”.
Jamieson said “ We have an experienced team in place with a couple of places to be filled, so make contact as we will be giving potential crew an opportunity to join our Hobart team through the qualifying races “
