- FreeFly-Slalom: 4 men’s & 8 women’s eliminations were finished yesterday.
- Artzner was chasing Suardiaz for 7 eliminations, but Suardiaz held the lead.
- Cappuzzo’s & Escofet’s crash gave Galea advantage.
MEN’S ELIMINATION 1-3
It was a thrilling second day at the GWA Wingfoil World Cup Gran Canaria. We successfully ran four eliminations for the men and eight for the women. The tough conditions in the Canaries left the competitors struggling.
In the first elimination, Cappuzzo was leading the pack. However, in the second elimination, when Escofet crashed right in front of him, he had no other choice but to edge hard and luckily jump over him to avoid collateral damage and a collision, in favor of Galea.
He won three out of the four eliminations after mistakenly entering the wrong heat of the competition at Pozo Izquierdo, which left him adrift on the leaderboard.
“It was crazy action. It was a really tight start and we were going fast. Rounding the first mark we were going too fast. Bastien crashed in front of me while he was leading. Francesco was between me and him. It was the craziest crash I’ve seen in my life.” – Galea said.
WOMEN’S ELIMINATION 1-8
Spain’s Nia Suardiaz topped women’s FreeFly-Slalom rankings with a massively convincing outing when she took seven wins from eight. Even a crash on the startline of the final race of the day was not stopping her. Her closest rivals, the French riders Flora Artzner and Orane Ceris, couldn’t keep up.
“I’m super-happy with my results, I finished first in all of them. I’m using an 800cms2 front wing. It’s really important to use a bigger front wing to get a better ride on the swell.” – Suardiaz said.
