Geographe Bay Race Week – Day 5

Rolling into day five of Race Week, with the lay day but a fond memory, the fleet looked hot to trot on the tram from the marine to the end of the Jetty.

However, a crucial component of the sport was missing – the wind!!

It would seem that our ‘Energizer Bunny” Race Director had overlooked putting in his order for the wind and the resulting ‘glass out’ was nothing short of spectacular. But it was great fishing weather!

The start time of 11:55 am came and went (I must have known something – ha, ha!), but several boats kindly serenaded the fleet with their eclectic musical choices and impressive sound systems

With the temperature climbing towards 40 degrees, the crystal clear waters of the Bay beckoned. Swimming and hydration ensued until our PRO, Trevor “The Wind Whisperer” Milton conjured up a light SW breeze at around 1:30 pm and put the fleets into sequence.

Off and racing, the light conditions proved a challenge for some but with the course tracking the coast and the number 7 mark in front of the GBYC clubhouse, several boats decided to strut their stuff

The rockstar crew on Obsession led the charge, with her massive blue kite, however the assembled fleet under spinnaker was a sight to behold.

The wind did finally arrive, just after 4 pm, with all boats finishing the course not long after 5. GBYC’s new deck area was pumping by 6 and Geographe Bay turned on yet another memorable sunset – does life get any better?

The last race of the regatta starts at 9 am this morning – let’s hope Huey cooperates and sends some wind!
