Day Two Report – Sylt, Germany

  • Optimal wind conditions on Day Two kickstarted the competition in Sylt
  • Capucine Delannoy triumphed in a close final at the first pure strapless-freestyle format event of this season
  • Immediately following the women’s final, we commenced the men’s heats before the wind dropped
  • The men need 4 more hours to finish, and we’re hopeful for weekend wind

The Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour has made its comeback to Sylt, in the northern part of Germany. This year’s event features the pure strapless-freestyle format, marking a shift from the previous two pure wave events. With 24 men and 10 women registered, the Defender GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Sylt is in full swing. Despite the absence of wind on the first day, we commenced Day Two early with the women’s division.

In the final, old rivals Camille Losserand and Capucine Delannoy faced off. Delannoy wanted to avenge her loss to Losserand at the Big Air World Championships. However, Losserand quickly took the lead with solid scores, while Delannoy struggled in the beginning, putting her behind on the scoreboard.

When the wind dropped and the heat was paused for about 30 minutes, Delannoy got a chance to regroup. With determination, Delannoy made a comeback, earning scores of 6.33 and 7.47 for her tricks, totaling 18.37 out of 30. Losserand kept fighting, scoring 6.27 and 7.00 for a total of 17.44. But it wasn’t quite enough.

Capucine Delannoy, the reigning world champion, secured a narrow victory in the final of the Defender GKA Kite-Surf World Cup in Sylt, Germany. The win marked her return to form after recent defeats. Delannoy’s triumph in Sylt puts her back in the running for the world title, after her loses to Moona Whyte earlier in the season.

Moona Whyte chose to skip the Sylt event due to the format not suiting her, thus enabling her to utilize one discard out of the five events scheduled for this season.
