Globe 580 Transat

The 2025 Mini Globe Race and Globe 580 Transat departs Marina Rubicón Saturday 11 January 2pm local time. The start line is off Marina Rubicón breakwater for a public viewing opportunity.

  • 15 solo sailors on 19ft (5.8m) home-built plywood yachts to set off 28,000 miles around the world returning in March 2026.
  • A world-first event never attempted before. Historic extreme adventure challenge organised by Australian adventurer and explorer Don McIntyre, organiser of the Golden Globe Race and Ocean Globe Race.
  • Sailors from 9 countries, all ages and colourful backgrounds.

The Globe 580 Transat sees 12 entrants racing from Lanzarote to Antigua across the Atlantic. Many who compete in the Transat aim to continue their journey by entering the Mini Globe Race, building on their Atlantic crossing experience. 15 entrants will take part in this ambitious circumnavigation event, requiring participants to sail around the world in their Class Globe 5.80 yachts. The first Mini Globe Race starts on February 23 2025, following earlier Transat races in 2021 and 2023 that have already demonstrated the capabilities of the Class Globe 5.80 design.
