ILCA 4 World Champs – Day 5

Viana do Castelo, Portugal — After a day without racing at the ILCA 4 World Championship, conditions improved today and racing was held in ideal sailing conditions. Today marked the start of the finals series.

The day began promptly at 10:40 with D Flags up for the Men Gold and Women Gold fleets, signaling the start of races. Competitors faced a steady breeze originating from 330º, initially clocking in at 13 knots and steadily building to reach 17 knots by the third race, ensuring challenging yet rewarding conditions for all sailors.

Current Leaderboard (after eight races):

  • In ILCA 4 – Men, Josip Tafra from Croatia is now in the lead, followed closely by Carlos Charabati of Canada, and Ali Poyraz Özdemir from Turkey is in third overall.
  • For ILCA 4 – Women, Hieke Schraffordt from the Netherlands has moved into first, Feline Van Ede, also from the Netherlands, sits in second, with Katrina Micallef of Malta still in pursuit.

With the final day of the championship scheduled for June 30th, anticipation builds for the remaining three races. The action will kick off at 13:00, promising another day of riveting competition.

As the championship draws to a close, the sailors prepare for the grand finale, culminating in the prize-giving ceremony at 18:00. Tomorrow’s events will help determine the ultimate champions across both categories and celebrate their talents and contributions to youth sailing.
