How much wind can we race with?
Today marked day 3 of the iQFOiL International Games in Cadiz, and it proved to be a windy one. The morning began with winds around 20 knots, allowing for the first possible start at 0900h. However, as the day progressed, the wind steadily increased, peaking at around 38 knots.
Despite the challenging conditions, the seniors completed the maximum of 5 races, while the U17 fleets managed 4 races. The U19 fleets, the last group to race, squeezed in 2 races for the women and 3 for the men. Racing had to be halted as the wind conditions became too dangerous, with gusts reaching 38 knots and short, choppy waves.
Today’s racing brought forth new leaders and consistent winners, reshuffling the standings. Currently leading the men’s senior fleet is Sebastian Koerdel (GER), while Tuva Oppedal (NOR) maintains her lead in the women’s category. In the U19 women’s fleet, Carola Colasanto (ITA) has taken over the lead from fellow Italian Linda Oprandi, who dropped down to 2nd after today’s races. In the men’s U19 category, Frenchman Tom Nicole leads the rankings.
In the U17 boys’ fleet, Gustaw Trybek (POL) retains his lead, while another Polish sailor, Maria Rudowizc, maintains her 1st place position in the U17 girls’ fleet.
Tomorrow promises more racing as we anticipate another windy day according to the forecast.
