Lesson for all of us: Plan, Prepare, Practise

In a frustrating but ultimately happy outcome, media outlet Stuff New Zealand reports how a distress call made in a hurry and not monitored by the sender led Maritime NZ on a wild goose chase, 80 nautical miles further south than where the supposedly sinking yacht actually was.

To add to the frustration, the yacht's crew did not report back when they reached safe harbour and were no longer in need of rescue.

Read the full story and take note that when intending to go sailing for any length of time, proper planning and training in procedures is a sensible preparation for all crew members.
