In a frustrating but ultimately happy outcome, media outlet Stuff New Zealand reports how a distress call made in a hurry and not monitored by the sender led Maritime NZ on a wild goose chase, 80 nautical miles further south than where the supposedly sinking yacht actually was.
To add to the frustration, the yacht's crew did not report back when they reached safe harbour and were no longer in need of rescue.
