McGrath Foundation named official charity partner for Extreme Sailing Series in Sydney

4 December 2014 – The McGrath Foundation has been appointed the official charity partner of the Extreme Sailing Series in Australia. The partnership will help raise funds to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia and increase breast awareness in young women.

The global racing series will be held in Australia for the first time on Sydney Harbour from 12 to 14 December, and is expected to draw crowds in the thousands.

McGrath Foundation CEO, Petra Buchanan, said, “The McGrath Foundation has a long association with exciting sporting events and we are thrilled to be building on this history through our partnership with Extreme Sailing Series™ in Australia. We’re encouraging everyone to head to Sydney Harbour to check out this unique, adrenalin-fuelled sailing event to soak up the action and donate at the same time.”

Extreme Sailing Australia Director, Howard Elliott said, “Extreme Sailing Series is honoured to have the McGrath Foundation as the official charity partner for this exciting event. We have brought the world's best sailors to compete at the world's best venue and Australia's world and Olympic champions will be head to head with the best from Europe, New Zealand and Great Britain. We urge everyone to come and enjoy the action and support the McGrath Foundation in providing essential McGrath Breast Care Nurses throughout our community.”

Sydney Harbour is the final venue in a truly global circuit for the Extreme Sailing Series in 2014 which has visited Singapore, Oman, China, Russia, UK, Turkey and France.

The Extreme Sailing Series, now in its eighth year, has redefined the sport of yacht racing. International professional sailing teams are pitted against each other on identical Extreme 40 catamarans, on challenging, tactical courses, but close to shore to provide spectacular, stadium-style entertainment for the public.

More than 80 McGrath Foundation volunteers will be on hand each day of the event, encouraging spectators to donate in support of the Foundation.
