A missing sailor whose yacht was found washed up on a beach near Lyme Regis had sailed from Torquay a few hours before, police have revealed.
Jeffery Hewitt left the harbour in Torquay on Thursday, October 16 on his recently purchased boat ‘Louise’.
Later that same day ‘Louise’ was found with no persons on board having washed up on a beach just west of Lyme Regis during what were to be believed heavy seas.
Police have now issued an appeal for witnesses who may have seen him in Torquay in the days and weeks prior to his disappearance.
It is known that Mr Hewitt purchased the 20ft sailing boat at Torquay on September 28, during a visit.
