Mordialloc Motor Yacht Club Commodore Des Fullarton said baffles, which help reduce the impact of waves in rough weather, needed to be replaced after 75-year-old couta boat Marlay’s hull was punctured while moored in the creek during wild weather on March 26.
Mr Fullarton said the club had been lobbying for years to have the baffles upgraded because there was nothing to protect boats from huge waves.
“(The baffles) have just rotted away,” Mr Fullarton said.
“There’s nothing of them left. They’re not even doing the job anymore. It’s dangerous. We need the wave baffles there.”
