More than 100 passengers rescued from tall ship that ran aground near Statue of Liberty

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – More than 100 people were rescued on Saturday afternoon from a tall ship that ran aground near the Statue of Liberty, said a Coast Guard spokeswoman. No one was injured.

The 103-foot-long passenger vessel called for help at about 1:11 p.m., said Michelle Krupa, the Coast Guard spokeswoman.

The ship, which was carrying 121 passengers and nine crew members, ran aground in shallow water about 500 yards south of the Statute of Liberty, Ms. Krupa said.
